New PPG Release Form

ASCA Members,
A new Paw Print Genetics (PPG) release form has been uploaded to the ASCA website and replaces the current form. This form gives permission for PPG to use DNA submitted for parentage testing in all current and future parentage test requests. This is for parentage testing only and does not allow non-owners to run genetic tests with DNA on file with PPG. Currently the owner of the sire/dam must give permission for each dam/sire’s offspring to be tested. By submitting this form it allows PPG to create a database for parentage testing without having to involve the owners of the parents each time there is a parentage test request.

NOTE: THIS FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE PARENTAGE TEST TO ALLOW PPG TO TRANSMIT THE RESULTS TO ASCA. IF THIS FORM IS NOT SUBMITTED, ASCA WILL NOT ISSUE CP OR VP AND LITTERS WILL NOT BE REGISTRABLE WITH ASCA.

MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE ASCA REGISTRATION NUMBER ON THE RELEASE FORM.

If you do not own any of the parents that will be used in the parentage verification, you need to call or email PPG before placing the order through their website. If both parents’ DNA are on file with PPG and PPG has the appropriate release form, you will only need to order 1 parentage test. However, the website will not allow you to order 1 test ($30.00) so you will need to call or email PPG.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Kalla

Canadian & European Affiliates & Members

Fellow ASCA Members,

The ASCA Board of Directors has received various letters of concern and has seen comments on social media and some lists about the lack of judges in Canada and Europe. The problem is compounded by the travel restrictions and closure of borders. The directors acknowledge that this is a problem and would like to see some temporary measures adopted regarding the use of experienced people and/or judges from other organizations to act as judges while these restrictions are in place. The Board has tasked the program committees to work on temporary alternatives and the committees are working on the problem.

This is a task for the committees because, while we are all concerned about the feasibility of events in Canada and Europe, the temporary measures shouldn’t compromise the integrity of the programs or the titles during this period of restrictions. We are concerned about our affiliates, but the committees, the Board, and ASCA, need to strike a balance between the needs of the affiliates and the integrity of the programs and titles. Also, each program has specific needs and ways in which judges are trained, educated, tested, and approved. Therefore, a “one size fits all” approach is not possible nor advisable.

The other issue that committees should consider in drafting creative ways to solve the judge availability problem in Canada and Europe is the competitor. Even in these challenging times, competitors will expect fair and expert judging. Therefore, the people allowed to judge during this period must be experienced and knowledgeable of ASCA’s rules, some of which are different from other organizations. The committees will have to find ways in which this knowledge and experience is evaluated in accordance with the needs of the program. While the committees are trying to do this as expeditiously as possible, please be understanding of the challenges they have in drafting a practical solution to this problem.

Thanks!

Affiliate Insurance

Members,
Below is information regarding Affiliate insurance and the Additional Insured Endorsement:

The proper procedure is for the Affiliate to contact the Business Office and request that both the Affiliate and the facility where the event is to be held be named as co-insureds during the event. Ray then contacts ASCA’s general liability carrier which issues a binder covering both the Affiliate and the facility. It is important that the Affiliates be made aware that coverage is not automatic, but must be requested on each occasion that the Affiliate puts on an event. That is because the policy is written to ASCA and not to the Affiliate.

When a venue requires they be NAMED as an additional insured, and wants a copy of the endorsement that shows their name, there is an additional fee of $50. If they are happy being INCLUDED as an additional insured under the blanket additional insured endorsement, then there is no additional cost.

The Affiliates also need to be made aware that ASCA’s general liability policy does not cover personal injury incurred by a participant, such as a fall in the ring. Such coverage is available to the Affiliates by specialty insurers at reasonable cost. If a query is made to the Business Office, Ray refers the Affiliate to Sportsmen’s Insurance (www.dogclubinsurance.com), a company which insures several Affiliates, ASCA’s broker, Catto & Catto, LLP, in San Antonio, or their own insurance broker.
